This week on social media, leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints shared how people can show love by serving others.
As part of a Valentine’s Day message, President Russell M. Nelson, President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, invited members to recommit themselves to following the two great commandments: to love God and to love their neighbors.
“Giving help to others — making a conscientious effort to care about others as much as or more than we care about ourselves — is our joy,” President Nelson said.
The Relief Society general presidency — President Camille N. Johnson, Sister J. Anette Dennis and Sister Kristin M. Yee — shared an invitation for all adult women and young women turning 18 this year to gather to watch a worldwide Relief Society devotional on March 17, 2024.
The devotional will include messages from President Russell M. Nelson and the Relief Society general presidency. Women are encouraged to hold testimony meetings directly after the devotional and to prepare by studying President Johnson’s general conference address, “Jesus Christ Is Relief.”
Sharing the first photo of the Quorum of the Twelves Apostles to feature newly-called Elder Patrick Kearon, President Jeffrey R. Holland, acting president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, expressed his gratitude for serving with no “finer group of men.”
“Without exception,” President Holland said, “every one of these men has helped me become a better disciple of Jesus Christ.”
Sister Andrea Munoz Spannaus, second counselor in the Young Women general presidency, shared on Young Women Worldwide that she celebrated her native Argentina’s holiday “Friend’s Day” this year by baking cookies for her friends at the Church offices.
She said there are many ways to show love for others and asked her social media followers to share one way they show love to friends and family.
Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles shared that he received several handwritten Valentine’s Day cards from children in one of his grandson’s wards.
Reminding him of the love Jesus Christ has for children, he said, “Let us remember today — and every day — to love one another the way our Heavenly Father and His Son love us.”
Sister Amy A. Wright, first counselor in the Primary general presidency, posted an excerpt from “Preach My Gospel” that explains the attribute of diligence.
Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles shared a portion of his Jan. 23 BYU devotional address in which he talked about becoming the “wondrous works of God’s marvelous work.”
“We literally are ... the very reasons for His eternal plan,” Elder Bednar said, “and for the infinite and eternal atoning sacrifice of His Only Begotten Son.”
In his post, Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles shared a story of an English cathedral that was bombed during World War II. Inside, a statue of the Savior had its hands blown away. Ultimately the church decided to not repair it. Instead, they placed a sign that read, “Christ has no hands but yours.”
He said individuals can show their gratitude for the Savior by being “His hands here on earth.”
Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, wrote about his recent Provo Missionary Training Center devotional in which he taught that access to the power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ comes through repentance.
“He is not just willing but anxious to help us overcome sin and find joy,” Elder Christofferson said.
He also shared photos he took with his grandsons at the MTC, one of whom is training there and two of whom work there as teachers.
Elder Ronald A. Rasband of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles shared a video from his recent ministering visit to Maui, Hawaii, where there were severe wildfires last year.
Elder Rasband said he was “deeply touched” by the faith of members there — including Lahaina 2nd (Tongan) Ward Bishop Matavaimo’ui Ma, who is ministering to victims in his ward despite having lost his own home to the fires.
Elder Gerrit W. Gong of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles shared that he taught BYU-Idaho students at a devotional Sunday, Feb. 11, to “treasure up” the “lilies of the field” as pointed to by the Savior, instead of comparing themselves to or judging others.
Elder Patrick Kearon of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles shared a reminder of God’s love for His children.
“To those of you who are thinking, ‘Well, not me,’ He especially loves you,” Elder Kearon said.
Brother Bradley R. Wilcox, first counselor in the Young Men general presidency, invited young men, and their parents and leaders, to follow Young Men Worldwide on social media.
The new social accounts, he said, are meant for sharing announcements, spiritual insights, teaching tips and activity ideas.
