Among Idaho’s 44 counties, Madison County — the home of Rexburg and BYU–Idaho — has the most stakes, with 23.
Madison’s neighbor to the south, Bonneville County, which includes Idaho Falls, has 20 stakes, the second most among Idaho counties. (A stake in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is comprised of several wards and/or branches.)
Ada County, in southwest Idaho, has 19 stakes. Ada County, the state’s most populous county, includes Boise, the state’s capital city and largest city, and suburban Meridian, the state’s second-largest city. Ada is the only Idaho county with two Latter-day Saint temples, the Boise Idaho and Meridian Idaho temples.
Madison County, which already hosts the Rexburg Idaho Temple, will also be home to the Teton River Idaho Temple, which is in planning stages for north Rexburg.
