The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has identified the site location for the Cody Wyoming Temple.
The locations were released Monday, March 13, on ChurchofJesusChrist.org.
President Russell M. Nelson announced a house of the Lord for both Cody, Wyoming, on Oct. 3, 2021, one of the 13 new temple locations listed during October 2021 general conference.
Additional information and details for the temple — including exterior renderings and information about groundbreakings — will be released at a later date.
Projected as a single-story edifice of approximately 9,950 square feet, the temple is to be built on the west of Skyline Drive and north of the Cody Canal, in the southwest part of the city.
It will be the state’s third house of the Lord, following the Star Valley Wyoming Temple, which was dedicated in 2016, and the Casper Wyoming Temple, which had its groundbreaking ceremony the same month the Cody temple was announced.
Located in northwest Wyoming, Cody is the city closest to the east entrance of Yellowstone National Park. The 2020 census lists Cody with a population of 10,028. It is the county seat of Park County, which has about 30,000 residents.
More than 67,000 Church members in 19 stakes and 172 wards and branches reside in the state. Northwest Wyoming has three stakes — the first, in Lovell, was organized in 1901, after Latter-day Saint pioneers first settled in the Big Horn Basin in 1893.
Cody is currently in the Billings Montana Temple district, which comprises six Wyoming stakes and eight Montana stakes. Cody is about 100 miles from the Billings Montana Temple, 220 miles from the future Casper temple and 250 miles from the Star Valley temple, located in Afton.
