This week in Church history

Ground was broken for the first temple in Argentina on Wednesday, April 20, 1983, according to the May 1, 1983, Church News.

Presiding at the groundbreaking was Elder Bruce R. McConkie of the Quorum of the Twelve. He was accompanied by Elder Charles A. Didier and Elder Angel Abrea — a native of Argentina — of the Seventy.

The article stated: "The temple will serve some 150,000 members in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay."

The Buenos Aires Argentina Temple was dedicated in 1986. Temples have since been dedicated in both Paraguay and Uruguay.
