BISMARCK, N.D. — President Gordon B. Hinckley has traveled the world, a fact that comes as a surprise to no one.
He has traveled extensively throughout Asia, Africa, North America, Latin America, Europe, the South Pacific, and the isles of the sea. During the 41 years he's been a General Authority, he has logged the miles into the millions as he has traveled to most of the countries of the world. His biography says that during one eight-year period, he made more than 20 trips to the Orient and had spent an equivalent of two full years traveling there.
Since becoming president of the Church in 1995, he has traveled close to an estimated 300,000 miles.
His travels have taken him far and near, but until Sept. 18 when he arrived in the Peace Garden State for the dedication the following day of the Bismarck temple, he had never been to North Dakota.
"[Bismarck] is a fascinating place with the Missouri River running through the city," he told the Church News. "The Lewis and Clark Trail went through this area. This is the territory of Sacajawea."
Now that President Hinckley has added North Dakota to his vast list of travels, he has been to all 50 states of the United States.
